Alanaterra is a planetary system orbiting an orange K-class star in the Hydra constellation of the Spica Region, roughly 199 light-years from Earth.
Its primary settled world, Alanaterra C, is a warm tropical planet divided into six jungle-covered continents. The planet is breathable and biologically abundant, but its living environment has proven far more difficult to colonize than most habitable worlds.
Alanaterra C is dominated by the Xyriss, long-bodied winged predators with scaled membranes, flexible spinal musculature, and silent gliding behavior from high thermal columns. In Alanaterra’s canopy skies they are not rare anomalies but the dominant large lifeform, shaping every settlement plan and expedition route.
The Xyriss are fiercely territorial and aggressive toward unfamiliar movement, aircraft, survey teams, and exposed frontier equipment. Their hunting ranges overlap the densest jungles, where poisonous plants, predatory insects, disease-bearing wetlands, and choking vegetation make even short overland construction projects dangerous.
Because of this, Alanaterra’s human population has remained limited to fortified enclaves, elevated research stations, armored transit corridors, and carefully cleared coastal zones. The world’s population has never grown beyond roughly one million, not for lack of resources, but because the planet itself resists large-scale human expansion.
