The system has always been an important junction for those traveling between the various regions. The inner planets though were rarely visited by those traversing the system. The planet's were seen to contain little benefit, until deeper surveys revealed large deposits of valuable metals existed on the inner most world.
The planet was extremely hot orbiting the sun in just 18 days. Addressing this issue, an extensive network of mines were built on the planet's cooler, tidally-locked night side. The planet has been important piece in the Inner Sphere as its resources have been exported to 4 different regions.
