Sentinel is a planetary system orbiting a G9V yellow main-sequence star in the Capricornus constellation of the Capricorn Region.
Its primary world, Sentinel C, developed into one of the region’s largest industrial and military powers. Vast manufacturing districts, weapons complexes, and heavily fortified settlements spread across its cold plateaus and storm-cut valleys, supported for generations by an economy built on coerced labor.
Slavery became deeply embedded in Sentinel society and eventually defined much of its political and economic order. Enslaved populations worked in mines, factories, military yards, and agricultural zones while ruling institutions resisted growing pressure from neighboring systems to abolish the practice.
Tensions eventually erupted into the Sentinel Liberation War. After a brief but decisive conflict, Sentinel was forced to end slavery and emancipate millions. Many of the newly freed left the system entirely, with a large number resettling in the nearby Maze system, where they founded a society centered on liberty and opposition to forced labor.
Modern Sentinel remains prosperous, populous, and strategically important, but its past continues to shape public life. Memorials, ruined detention complexes, preserved labor camps, and ongoing political debates reflect a society still divided over responsibility, reconciliation, and the meaning of liberation.
